Artist Statement Preface
Like an Afterimage

Many people who have creative perception ability love to think invisible thing that is out of their sight, and believed the power of the invisible. Yet the question 'how the invisible affect our perception, and what does it mean?' is remained as a permanent assignment for human to solve.

To me, New York was a foundation of my life; it gave me a lot of images into my heart. Its name is so famous that the City captured my heart with a single look with many visual implements before I settled down there, after all step in. But I want to step out of pre-occupied images; it was my burden to live with art. So I walked through the rain with many thoughts, and began to see hidden things behind the City, where seems to be nothing in this world.

Pinhole gave me a new sight to represent hidden things disclose, Polaroid presented it pure & unique value.

창조적 지각능력을 가졌던 수많은 사람들은 자신의 시각에서 벗어난 보이지 않는것들에 대해 탐했구고 그 보이지 않는 것들의 힘을 믿어왔다. 그렇다면 그 보이지 않는 것들이라는 것은 우리에게 어떤의미로 우리의 지각을 충족시키어 왔는가라는 것은 예술을 향유하는 그리고 세상을 살아가는 인간에게 중요한 숙제로 남겨져있다.

나의 뉴욕은 삶의 터전이었지만 그 이전 내게 무수히도 많은 이미지들을 미리 심어준 도시이기도 하였다. 너무나도 유명한 도시였기에 이 도시는 수많은 시각적 도구들을 이용해 우리가 이곳에 발을 딧기도 전에 이 도시를 강제적으로 수용하도록 만들었다. 그렇게 선점령되어있던 이미지에서 나는 벗어나길 원했고 그것이 예술을 손에쥐고 살아가야할 나의 책무이기도 했다. 걸었고 보았고 무수히 느꼈다 그리고는 장대비같이 대량생산된 이미지를 통해 우리에게 강요되어지는 장면과 공간에서 벗어나 세상에 존재하지 않을것 같은 그러나 존재하고 있는 이 도시의 숨겨져 있고 보지못했던 장면들을 바라보기 시작했다.

핀홀은 보이지 않는 것들에게 세상에 드러날 기회를 제공해 주었고 폴라로이드는 그들에게 순수하고 유일한 가치를 선물해주었다.
Unashamedly passionate in his pursuit of beauty, His work finds symmetry in the everyday. His work locates the epic in the everyday, making evident the beauty that resided in things that often go unnoticed; light breaking across flora, bursts of color challenging a hard urban façade, sculptural forms emerging from the street, light freezing a moment between earth and sky. His images let us see the hidden city: a city unseen that lies at the threshold of our vision, hard and beautiful. His images exist outside of time, holding and transforming the moment to reveal alternate photographic truths.

미를 추구하는 당당한 열정으로 그는 작품을 통해 일상 속에서 균형미를 발견한다. 박은광의 작품은 꽃들 사이로 부서지는 빛, 삭막한 도시의 파사드를 부수어내 현란한 색감, 거리에서 드러나고있는 조각적인 형태들, 땅과 하늘 사이에서 시간이 멈춘 듯한 빛과 같이 사물 속에 숨겨져 있는 아름다움을 극명히 드러냄으로써 일상의 서사시를 풀어놓고있다. 그의 이미지들은 우리의 시각적 경계에 자리잡고 있기에 보이지 않던 강하고 아름다운 도시를 보여준다. 그의 사진들은 변형적이며 대체적인 사진적 진실을 드러내기 위해 찰나의 순간을 잡아내고 변형시킴으로써 시간의 영역 밖에서 존재한다.
