송영숙의 작품을 마주하면 자연과 교감하면서 깊은 사색의 장으로 들어가는 나 자신을 발견하게 된다. 그의 작품은 목초지나 거칠게 일렁이는 바다 또는 한여름의 청명한 하늘처럼, 일상에서 흔히 접하는 광경을 담고 있다. 이 일상의 장면을 한순간으로 대치하여 사진 속에 붙잡아 둠으로써 보는 이에게 자연이 가진 무한한 생명력을 전하는 것이다. 그는 분명 자연 세계와 깊고도 사적인 관계 안에 있으며, 사진을 통해 이 관계에 대한 이야기를 차근차근 설명한다.

송영숙의 《Meditation》 연작은 그가 자연과 사적이고도 친밀한 관계를 맺는 방법인 것 같다. 그는 폭넓은 감성을 시적 이미지로 풀어내는 재능을 가지고 있다. 이미지 한 장 한 장이 저마다 힘을 지니고 있으며, 시리즈 전체를 한 맥락으로 읽어낼 때 그 의미는 작가의 내면을 드러내고 있어 미적 가치로 승화된다. 이 작품들로 우리의 감수성을 일깨워 주고, 영감을 공유하게 해 준 작가 송영숙에게 감사해야 한다.

Each image invites the viewer to enter a state of reflection and contemplation through an intimate connection with nature. The scenes in each photograph are ones that we often see in daily life: a meadow, a tumultuous sea, the bluest sky on a summer day. By immortalizing these ordinary moments in time with her camera, Youngsook SONG encourages the viewer to embrace the ceaseless energy of nature. It is abundantly clear that she has a deep and personal relationship with the natural world, and she graciously shares this connection through her photographs.

This meditative series of images by SONG nurtures an evocative state of mind that allows the viewer to discover a personal way of relating to nature. She has a poetic visual sensibility that deals with a broad range of human feelings. Each image has its own presence: however, experiencing the entire series as a whole creates a more meaningful, introspective state of mind. We should feel grateful to Song for awakening our sensitivities and sharing her inspirations.
