책을 통해 세상을 이해하기 전에 종이를 접으며 세상을 이해하던 시절이 있었다. 같은 종이 로부터 여러 가지 사물이 태어나는 것은 신비로운 일이었다. 세밀한 손의 움직임과 눈으로 헤아린 짐작이 가장 연약한 재료 안에서 만나, 복잡한 설명에 따라 접히고 난 후, 마지막으로 사물의 모습이 나타날 때 나의 몸과 생각은 서로 조화롭게 화해했다. 종이접기 놀이는 단 하 나의 세계로부터 무수히 많은 세계들이 태어나는 깊은 비밀들을 내게 보여 주었다.

주어진 도안에 만족하지 않고 새로운 접기에 도전하는 아이라면 끊임없이 고민할 것이다. 머 리와 날개는 어떻게 구분하고, 선체와 돛은 어떻게 구분할까? 아이들은 종이 접기의 핵심이 접히는 부분에 있다는 것을 잘 알고 있다. 이는 접기가 끊임없이 두 부분을 만들어 내기 때문 에, 그리고 접힌 지점과 정도에 따라 서로 다른 모습을 만들어 내기 때문이다.

마찬가지로, 마음속에 인상적인 여진들이 남게 되는, 책을 읽고 사물을 바라보는 일은 무한히 많은 주름을 생산하는 일이다. 글을 읽는 순간, 우리는 단어 또는 생각을 나누면서 동시에 그것을 연결한다. 종이와 잉크의 접점, 사물과 사유의 접점을 둘러싸고 나타나는 이미지의 안개 속에서 우리는 그와 같은 나눔과 연결을 끊임없이 계속한다. 한줌의 종이는 자기 자신으로 존재하기 위해 주름을 만든다. 그 주름이 타인의 잃어버린 인상의 조각일 확률은 극히 미소하지만 그 확률에 자신을 걸고 불가능성에 자신을 건다.

Traveller Novice

There was a time when I was to understand the world while folding a piece of paper and reading a book. It was mysterious that several images appeared from paper. My body and mind reconciled with each other in the harmony when the image of object finally appears after fine hand movements and assumption met in the soft material and were read. Books showed me a deep secret that myriad worlds are born from only one world.

Reading and seeing a book, which leaves impressive after shock, is to infinitely produce many folds. When we read a book, we share words or thoughts and connect them at the same time. We continue to do such sharing and connection in the mist of the image that appears surrounding the point of contact of paper and ink, and object and thought.

Books can be distinguished by the books which are read or not read. The volume of gap occurs to the book which is read as much as it is read. My photographic works are to express the fact that the paper and book, icon of knowledge, is merely a physical entity, however, it is recognized as the presence of another dimension at the moment we check it.
