한진그룹 산하 일우재단은 대한항공 서소문 빌딩 1층 로비에 위치한 일우스페이스(一宇SPACE)에서 제8회 일우사진상 수상자인 성남훈(56) 작가의 수상기념 <패 : FAIT> 전시를 개최한다. 성남훈 작가는 제8회 일우사진상에서 ‘올해의 특별한 작가’ 다큐멘터리 부문에 선정되었다. 3월 15일(목)부터 4월 25일(수)까지 일우스페이스에서 진행되는 이번 전시에서는 작가가 20여 년동안 지속적으로 진행해온 작업들을 아울러 선별하여 11개의 프로젝트를 소개한다. 작가 성남훈은 그동안 사진의 기록과 진술의 중요성에 천착하여 세계 곳곳의 죽음과 삶의 긴박한 순간들을 기록했다. 작가는 1994년 ‘루마니아 집시’, ‘포르투갈 이민자’을 시작으로, 정치, 사회, 경제, 문화, 전쟁 등의 이유로 자신의 근거지를 떠날 수 밖에 없는 유민들을 촬영했으며, 세계의 분쟁지역과 환경오염, 자원전쟁 등을 작업의 주제로 삼아 삶의 현장과 인간사를 기록해왔다. 이번 전시에서 성남훈은 최근 인간의 욕망이 환경에 미치는 영향과 상호적인 관계에 대한 문제의식을 가지고 촬영한 인도네시아의 ‘방카섬 주석광산’, 페루의 ‘황금도시 링코나다’, 베트남의 ‘북하롱베이 노천탄광’, 유럽의 ‘시리아 난민’ 등에 대한 기록 8개의 작업을 소개한다. (‘방카섬 주석광산’은 최근 전자기기 제조를 위해 사용되는 주석의 수요가 급증하면서 시작된 무분별한 채굴경쟁과 불법채굴의 현장, 그로 인해 파괴되어가는 환경과 그 환경 속에서 살아가는 사람들에 대한 기록이다. ‘황금도시 링코나다’는 일확천금을 꿈을 꾸며 모여든 사람들과, 이로 인해 파괴되어 가는 땅과 사람의 이야기를 담고 있다. 금가루를 수은을 이용하여 채취하는 채금방식으로 인해 땅과 사람 모두 수은으로 오염되거나 중독되고 있고, 그로 인해 황금도시 링코나다는 쓰레기와 매음굴, 알코올과 도박, 황금에 대한 욕망이 뒤엉킨 세계에서 가장 가난하고 고립된 빈민의 도시로 전락했다.) 또한, 기존에 소개된 바 있지만 ‘보스니아 내전’, ‘르완다 난민’, ‘코소보 사태’ 등 최근 작업과 연관성이 있는 3개의 유민들에 대한 프로젝트의 미공개 작업들 역시 함께 공개할 예정이다.

한편, 한진그룹 산하 일우재단에서 주최, 주관하는 일우사진상은 뛰어난 재능과 열정을 지닌 유망한 사진가들을 발굴해 국제적 경쟁력을 지닌 세계적인 작가로 육성하고자 2009년에 처음 제정되었다. 2017년 제8회 일우사진상 공모에는 국내의 열정적인 사진작가들이 대거 응모하여 치열한 경쟁을 벌였다. 수상자는 사진과 현대미술 분야의 전문가들이 참여한 국제심사위원단이 24인의 1차 심사 합격자들을 일대일로 포트폴리오 리뷰를 하여 선정하였다. 이 자리를 통해서 참가 작가들은 자신의 작품세계를 발전시키는데 도움이 되는 조언을 들을 수 있는 기회를 가졌고, 국제심사위원단에게 한국의 역량 있는 작가들을 알릴 수 있었다.

전주대 경영학과 졸업 후 프랑스 파리 사진대학 ‘이카르 포토(Icart Photo Ecole de Paris)’에서 다큐멘터리를 전공, 프랑스 사진에이전시 ‘라포(Rapho)’의 소속 사진가로 활동하였다. 현재 온빛다큐멘터리 회장이며, 사회공익적 사진집단 ‘꿈꽃팩토리’를 이끌고 있다. 1992년 파리 그랑 팔레, 1994년 도쿄 가디어 가든, 1996년 파리 국립사진센터, 2006년 갤러리 와, 2008년 한미사진미술관, 2010년 류가헌, 타슈켄트 국립사진센터, 2014년 국립현대미술관, 2016년 스페이스22 등 국내 외에서 전시회를 열었으며, 1992년 르 살롱 최우수사진상, 2004년 강원다큐멘터리 작가상, 2006년 한미사진상, 동강사진상, 1999/2009년 월드프레스포토상, 2017년 일우사진상을 수상하였다. 작품은 국립현대미술관, 서울올림픽미술관, 전북도립미술관, 예송미술관, 영월사진박물관, 타슈켄트 국립사진센터, 국가인권위원회, 갤러리 와, 스페이스22등 다수의 갤러리에 소장되어 있다. 출판물로 이데아 ‘꿈꾸는 들녘’ 타임 스페이스 ‘소록도’ 눈빛 ‘유민의 땅’ 기아대책 ‘아프리카에서 꿈을 찍다’ 눈빛 ‘불완한 직선’ 류가헌 ‘연화지정’ 등이 있다.

Born in Jinan, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea, in 1963

After graduating from Jeonju University with a degree in Business Administration, Sung Namhun studied Documentary Photography at Icart Photo École de Paris and began working for Rapho, a photographic press agency in France. He is currently a President of Onbit Documentary and a representative for Dream Flower Factory, a photography group motivated for public good. He has showcased his works at numerous exhibitions both at home and abroad, including the Grand Palais in Paris (1992), Guardian Garden in Tokyo (1994), Centre National de la Photographie in Paris (1996), Gallery Wa (2006), the Museum of Photography, Seoul (2008), the Tashkent House of Photography (2010), the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in South Korea (2014), and Space22 (2016). His works have also garnered him prestigious awards such as the First Prize in Photography from "Le Salon" in Paris (1992), the Gangwon Grant for Documentary Production in South Korea (2004), the Hanmi Photography Award and Dong Gang Photography Award in South Korea (2006), the World Press Photo award (1999/2009), and the Ilwoo Photography Award in South Korea (2017). His works are displayed in galleries such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in South Korea, the Seoul Olympic Museum of Art(SOMA), Jeonbuk Museum of Art, Yesong Gallery, the Dong Gang Museum of Photography, the Tashkent House of Photography, the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, Gallery Wa, and Space22. Sung has also published his own books of photography with “Dreamy Field” (Idea), “Sorokdo” (Time Space), “The Unrooted” (Noonbit), “Capturing Dreams in Africa” (Korea Food for the Hungry International, KFHI), “Incomplete Straight Line” (Noonbit), and “Lotus Well” (Gallery Ryugaheon).
