The god means the love

The purpose of inventing the photos is to realize the visible world. Everybody is attracted to the realization when she keeps the camera on the hands. It is inevitable. But it became that the realized photos had been unattractive and insignificant from a certain moment. It is because of taking the such and such objects with obvious method. The first key for the photos taken for realizing is the ‘eye.’ The sincere answering to the question of ‘How to look into?’ is the key, even though the words of John Burger are not quoted. But, the matter of viewing is not limited only to the matter of the ‘eye.’ Even it is closer to the matter of the recognition. It is needless to say that the matter of seeing shall reveal the notion on the human and society simply and distinctively without exaggerations and it is essential to spark the enlightenment of the viewer. But it is not only the world dreamt by the photo. There is another world. It might be told as a new encountering. The utopia of Chun Hee Lee’s dreaming is thereto.

The world is not a realization but a world of creation. Somebody called these photos as ‘making photography.’ It is a description that it is not a fresh image of taken world as it is. It is an implication that something was manipulated. That’s correct. It is not to show something fresh as it is. A cooking method of heating and frying was added. In my opinion, it is more appropriate for the purpose of the work creation to call it a ‘creative photography.’ In this case, the action of ‘photo taking’ is merely a rite of passage to confirm the creativity of the photo taker finally. The photo taking does not exist externally but it depends on the brain, no the thought of the photo taker. In the other words, the thought is born through the vehicle of the format of photo. Of course, it is nothing new and nothing unexpected. There must be a rebellious child in any times.

The reason of looking the photos of Chun Hee Lee as interesting is same as it was said. It is not be long since she involved into the photo taking. It is distinguished that she skipped over the course of realizing photo which is the must for everybody. And then, she focuses to the creative photos without hesitation. Such attitude is not an easy one. Because it is a kind of glimmering light which comes suddenly in a day after experiencing many regrets and frustrations. So, how we can stop applauding. That’s it. It is fine without passing the professional educational organization of universities and graduate schools from now on. It is a photo world where there are considerable many photographers who can show in this level.

If the arts are the handling the human matters eventually, it is very natural that the photos of interest shall be revealed through the unique aesthetic pattern for the human understanding and opinion of the photo taker. The work has been displayed the ‘eyes’ of her vision to the world by means of two formative boulders of ice and doll based on the bright and strong background color. They were left to the diverse variants. The photographer did not forget to stress the changes in the midst of the simple formative layout. It is the fun of the photo taker while the fun of the viewer is from such variation too. It might be that the god of her belief told in this way,

‘it was good as it was seen.’

Her dolls are closed. The closed world is the inside of cold ice. These dolls are not being looked as to be destroyed after playing by the chests and hands of some children. The ice curbing the dolls is looked as same like the dolls. It represents the stout world which is not melting easily and another world which is looked as uneasy for escaping. And then, the dolls inside the cold ice are engineered gimmicks which attract the interpretation as a deep allegory. The art is like the art when it says about human. The work will contain the general pains of the life by means of simple, very simple idea. The human which is closed into the cold world. But they are the people in the hope rather than in despair. They are looked as warm as if they live with dreaming about the melting of the hard ice eventually as last. The ice starts to be melted. It is a symptom only at the moment, but the face, two ears, clean eyes, round nose, hands and feet are looked, clearly…..

The bird struggles to break the egg shell. The egg shell is the world. The one who will be born shall break a world. The bird flies to the god. The name of the god is Abraxas.

Another World

“The advantages of the camera reside not in converting the photographer to the artist but in making the photographer react to find the object consistently.” It is a nice sentence quoted from the article of “A turn of trip to the sun” written by Brooks Atkinson. I feel sympathy for his words in the course of finding my values and identity from the ice and doll for my objects.

My stories are inserted which are differed depending on the quality and shape of the ice for these photos. My life has been reflected on the repetitive work of freezing and melting the ice. The dolls see the diverse identities in my life. I could see and express my internal side in the dolls shaped in variety and from the broken dolls sometimes. The different states of the ice are made depending on the temperature and state of the water and container for such water and the different states of ice are made from the rate of freezing and thawing. And I could find myself between the coincidence and the presentation.

E. Steichen once said in the Time magazine, “Photo is the biggest power in the explanation of all areas of the emotion written on the human face, the beauty of the earth and heaven bequeathed to human and explaining the human to human.

There is a creation but there is no false in the photos. My life as a teacher for 43 years, the experiences in my life and my emotion are reflected and my past and future are reflected on the object to be taken. I would like to believe the situation of previous happiness and admiration will be reflected in the coming days.

The photos utilizing the ice and dolls are going concern. The works exhibited at the moment are the eyesight to another world which had been felt and experienced in the fixed framework of thought during the terms of professor. The warm relation and the feeling of the family members and neighbors were expressed.

The photos exhibited with the theme of the ice dolls at this time are the firstly created works. Further studies are needed in the future. I want to be happy and to be developed during the creation of ice photos in the life allowed to me. And I wish it to be the foundation and corner stone for the photos of ice around. My bigger wish is that my photo taking to be the work wanted by the God. It may be my willing to be a photographer who left beautiful footsteps of staying and who loved the neighbors.

There are working on the photos and warm applause from the family for me. It is thankful to the encouragement of the good friends. In addition, it is a big asset for me to have a few people of respect who help my photo taking. I delivery my sincere gratitude to the professor, Yang Geum Yang who guided me for a few years of photo taking and the last 5 months as a patient spine fracture. I convey all thanks and glories to the God who plans and arts all of these.
